Ask a business leader how important creativity is to their success and most will say it is critical. Ask them to put business resources (time, money, assets) toward creativity and the same leaders will placate.
“We don’t have budget for that.”
“We can’t distract from other priorities.”
“Maybe when we have some more manpower.”
Workplace creativity can sound like frivolity, but the creative skills necessary to innovate and develop new solutions have never been more important. Don’t let vocabulary get in the way.
When push comes to shove, most business leaders won’t commit to:
- Creativity
- Imagination
- Ideas
They are interested in the RESULTS of creativity at work:
- Innovative Solutions
- Competitive Advantage
- Market Disruption
Language may be the difference in whether or not creative skills are made a priority in your workplace.
