You can’t overcome a fear of public speaking by hiding in your bedroom.
Giving a TED Talk probably won’t cure you either.
You overcome it by finding the edge of your fear. Start by telling a little joke to a group of friends. Once you’re comfortable with that fear (it doesn’t go away), you can graduate up to telling longer stories. When that’s familiar, you may be ready to tell similar stories to groups of coworkers, and eventually strangers.
We can treat fear as a warning sign, and sometimes that is needed.
But most of the time, fear is an indicator… telling us where we can grow.
