I did the drawing above as a gift for a friend of my daughter who was going through a rough patch. The drawing is Wolverine, his favorite superhero.
But it made me think about origin stories. Every superhero has one. Wolverine was a mutant who could heal quickly (the claws were added later). Superman came form Krypton. Batman was orphaned at a young age.
These origins propelled the characters toward their hero identity. But what if they ignored that identity? What if they tried to live a “normal” life? Could they live knowing the potential within them and how they could have helped save others from harm?
What about you?
Are you denying your origin story? Is there something propelling you to be a hero? Is there a “superpower” hiding inside of you that the world could use?
It’s OK to start small–like a superhero stopping a purse-snatcher–but what would it look like to use your “powers” today, tomorrow and the next day?
