Creativity is an act of vulnerability. If there is an absence of trust in your team or organization, it will be hard to encourage creativity and innovative work.
The solution is vulnerability.
As a leader – with or without an official title or authority – make a point of stepping out. Be willing to share ideas, consider others’ ideas, and/or try something new. Let others know you are being vulnerable.
As much as leaders want to TALK about being vulnerable and trusting others, your ACTIONS are what make the difference. Vulnerability leads to trust, which will encourage greater creativity in your workplace.
If you want a trusting, vulnerable, creative culture… you have to start by trusting yourself enough to be vulnerable.
