Leaders often conflate a sense of value with pay scale.
Team members feel valued when…
…they are acknowledged.
…they understand the purpose of the organization/team.
…they understand their role in fulfilling that purpose.
…they experience growth in their skills/abilities.
…that growth leads to a greater sense of agency.
Pay a salary commensurate with ability and experience, but don’t expect that alone to fulfill their need to feel valued. And if they don’t feel valued, good luck persuading them to add value to the organization.
Value creation starts with recognizing value, not extracting it.
